We invite you to join a free choreography and dance workshop, held by Korean dance artist Sunhwa Chung. It is her wish to meet Croatian dancers, the Croatian dance scene and has decided to visit the festival in Zagreb. We hope to see you join and exchange plenty of ideas on belonging, identity and re-contemplation of the relationship between the traditional and contemporary.
During this three-day, three-hour workshop Sunhwa will introduce the attendees to the contemporary dance techniques, followed by a progressive dance workshop during which the attendees will solve preset choreographic-dance tasks. The workshop is intended for contemporary dance and modern ballet dancers, who posess an advanced experience level in these styles.
Sunhwa Chung, a native of Korea, earned her M.A. in Dance from American University, Washington, D.C. in 1999. Before coming to America, she performed across Korea and Japan and also at the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Korea and Japan. Upon moving to the States, she presented here works at prestigious venues including: The Kennedy Center (DC), Lincoln Theater (DC), Dance Place (DC), Asian American Arts Center (Maryland) etc.
In 2001, Ms. Chung formed Sunhwa Chung/Ko-Ryo Dance Theater in New York City and has since produced and directed several performances of Ko-Ryo Dance Theater in New York based venues including: Merce Cunningham Studio and Joyce SoHo. Her choreography has been presented at the Cool New York Dance Festival, La MaMa Moves Dance Blast at Jacob's Pillow Festival. In 2012, she was resident artist at Dance New Amsterdam. She has toured back to Korea in 2012 to perform at the 'Korean Festival' in Seoul, Incheon, Yongin and Kwangju. Her first visit to Croatia in 2014 was to present her traditional Korean dance at the National Theatre in Varaždin.
